It is:
- A partnership in which the coach helps their client to achieve the results the client wants in their business and personal lives
- A positive, empowering experience which focuses on the present and the future “Coaching is unlocking a person’s potential to maximise their own performance. It is helping them to learn rather than teaching them.” Timothy Gallwey (1986)
It isn’t:
- Therapy
- Counselling
- A way of exploring what went wrong in the past
- Training, though the client usually learns a lot about themselves and how they affect the world around them
- Instruction. The coach does not tell the client what to do
So what does happen?
- Coaching is a conversation, in which the coach uses her skills as a listener and questioner to help the client clarify what they want to achieve and find the resources they need to reach those goals.
- Chrissie makes use of the enhanced communication skills she has as a certified NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) Master practitioner.

Why do people have coaches?
- For many reasons, typical ones include: To decide or clarify business, career and personal goals
- To find out how to reach their objectives
- To improve work performance, and that may mean from a very high start!
- To make sure the work life and home life balance is right for them
- To work on specific aspects of their role, whether technical or as a people manager
- To ensure their direction of travel fits with their personal values
- Human beings are wonderfully creative and varied creatures, so this list isn't definitive!
